Most castor oil in the market is extracted using high-speed steel expellers or chemical solvents, run at high heat and volume. Ours is different. We use naturally sun-dried castor seeds (Amudham Vittulu), pressed slowly in a traditional wooden ganuga, exactly as it was done in Telugu households for generations.

🌱 WHAT IS AMUDHAM AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Amudham is the castor seed — small, mottled, and rich in oil once fully matured and dried under the sun. Traditionally, these seeds were harvested, sun-dried on open terraces for days, and only then taken for pressing. This slow natural drying allows the oil within the seed to develop fully, without any artificial acceleration.

This patience-driven process results in an oil that is thicker, purer, and far more potent than mass-extracted castor oil. It takes longer, yields less per session, and demands far more effort — but the resulting oil is unmistakably different in quality.

🔄 HOW WE EXTRACT OUR OIL

The sun-dried castor seeds are loaded into our traditional wooden ganuga (oil press). A bull is yoked to the press and walks in slow, steady circles, turning the wooden pestle that crushes the seeds gently at room temperature. The oil flows out naturally, is filtered, and bottled. That is all.

Cold-pressed entirely below 30°C — no heat generated
No solvents, no hexane, no chemicals at any stage
Nothing added, nothing removed — pure as it gets
One pressing session takes several hours; every litre is made with patience

⚗️ THE SCIENCE — WHY THIS IS DIFFERENT

Commercial castor oil is typically extracted using mechanical expellers running at high speed and temperature, often followed by solvent extraction to maximise yield. This heat and chemical exposure alters the oil's natural composition and strips away some of its character.

Our traditional Eddhu Ganuga extraction preserves the oil's naturally high ricinoleic acid content, its thick viscosity, pale golden colour, and mild characteristic aroma — all signs that the oil is completely unrefined and intact.
